The narrative advances the perky protagonist’s internal and external objectives with a gentle yet profound arc technical contributions complement her journey, both visually and sonically. Hart and her team have carefully and craftily built the ultimate sequel. While Ana is busy with demanding work constraints, Stargirl embarks on a personal mission to write her own music and lyrics, no longer relying on someone else’s artistry to elevate her own talents. While both have opposite reactions upon overhearing her ukulele-forward cover of ‘Mama’ Cass Elliot’s “Make Your Own Kind of Music,” it’s Evan who enlists her to help him and his brother Terrell (Tyrel Jackson Williams) make a sizzle reel for their movie idea - which, of course, vaguely parallels the story of “Hollywood Stargirl” itself. And her grandmother, Edie, might just be my favorite. She also has two best friends in Harper (a virgin succubus) and Bax (a guardian angel). ![]() Violet has two sisters, Rose and Olive, and they’re both so lovely and supportive. It doesn’t mess up the story or anything like that, but if you’re expecting this to be a kind of slow-burn of enemies to friends to lovers again, that’s not the path it takes. The plotline about them fake dating and falling for each other kind of threw me because when they begin fake dating, it doesn’t seem like there’s any real buildup instead, it seems like there’s just lingering feelings from years before. All of that to say it has a nice flow and things aren’t hard to follow at all. There are a few different plot points going on, and one question that I don’t believe was ever fully answered, but it isn’t super important that it is. This was such a fun read! It’s a pretty straightforward rom-com, with a lot of really loveable characters. ![]() “My grandmother always says sugarcoating things makes them easier to swallow, but it doesn’t change their base ingredients.” ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() The story itself is extremely compact, yet the level of characterisation and development given to Opal is huge and leaves you in awe. ![]() However, their interactions and love for another was what really gave this instalment so much intense emotion everything made you feel for them. Ronan and Adam dealt with a lot in this mini instalment to the series, dealing with their traumas and potential future in a way that is understandable and relatable given the circumstances the pair had dealt with throughout The Raven Cycle series. Yet, with the way the pair interact with another, it’s impossible not to empathise and relate. It’s clear she adores both Ronan and Adam, so much that it was achingly hard to listen to at times. Not understanding much about the world she lives in, listeners had the chance to view the world through her youthful eyes and see Ronan and Adam through her perspective. Opal is a character liked no other, being honest and innocent with the way she perceives the world. However, I never expected Opal to be such a wonderful character. The moment I spotted this on my Audible account, I just knew I had to listen to it, preferring shorter Audio-books and being a huge Raven Cycle fan. Taking place after the events of the fourth instalment of The Raven Cycle, The Raven King, this enchanting short story tells the story of Opal, Ronan’s dreamt creation.
